About Us
As visiting student and faculty writers from Pacific University, we embrace the local culture of Greve in Chianti by slowing down and listening to its artisans and caretakers.
These individuals, families, and friends share with us the ways in which they honor the land, art, architecture, and practices that have for generations sustained the remarkable people who call this place in Italy home.
Chianti is famous for its dark red wines, emerald green olive oil, and fine art--culinary, visual, and sculptural. Look closer, and you’ll see there is so much more to life here!
How do these community members stay true to their history and also innovate in a world undergoing a rapid rate of change? What can we learn from them?

Lead Writers and Creators
Since 2021, over 40 Pacific University students have been warmly welcomed in Greve in Chianti for study of the local community and history under the guidance of Professors Kathlene Postma and Scot Dobberfuhl. The students in the travel writing courses explore Florence, Lucca and other cities in Tuscany before beginning intensive study in Chianti.
Four Pacific students have served as writing and promotions interns on-site at La Macina di San Cresci, the international artists residency complex located in the stunning hills above Greve. The partnership between La Macina and Pacific University was established by Mimma Verduci and Kathlene Postma.
The interns' outreach in the community and devotion to learning about Chianti and the Tuscan life are reflected in our magazine. All of our interns--highly creative leaders--have gone on to work as writers, content creators, and artists.
